These are the following updates to the Rules, Version 2.2:

  • General Rules #10: added language on how games are paused and restarted by referees
  • Consolidated all boundary rules under the Boundaries section
    • The Kamikaze rule now addresses both offensive and defensive plays
  • Hit Rule #5: verbiage added to address when a player is finally out
    • "A player is not out from a hit until the thrown ball touches another object or surface"
  • Catch Rule #1: Language has been added to clarify possession so that knees and other body parts can be used.
    • "A catch is when a player retains full control (see Glossary) of a ball released by an opponent. While possession does not require both feet on the ground, the player must land with both feet, or any other part of his body inbounds (see Technical #4)"
  • Created a Showdown section by moving some boundary rules; also added some showdown clarifications
    • "There is no 10 second dead ball count."
    • "If a victor can’t be determined, then a showdown rematch will occur."
  • Technical Rule #10: Kicking will be considered as an illegal throw
    • "A ball must be picked up in order for the release to be legal. Smacking, spiking, kicking, or scooping a ball are not allowed, and the hit won't count; however if caught by the opponent, the catch is legal."

The next update will be in the Summer of 2013.
